Diane (JoBeth Williams) and Steven (Craig T. Nelson) Freeling's family home becomes the center of paranormal activity that opens a doorway to the "other side" and causes their daughter Carol Anne (Heather O'Rourke) to disappear to there. With help from a parapsychologist and a medium, they must cross over to get Carol Anne back after sending their two older kids, Dana (Dominique Dunne) and Robbie (Oliver Robbins), away for safety
