It’s yet another week of sports in Broome County.
Earlier this week, Binghamton University’s men’s soccer team lost 3-1 at No. 20 Cornell on Tuesday in Ithaca. Cornell scored three times in the first half and outshot Binghamton 19 to 5. In high school soccer, the Seton boys won 3-2 at Chenango Forks on Monday, but the Forks girls answered with a 7-1 win against the Seton girls on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Maine-Endwell’s boys got the better of Horseheads 4-3, Vestal beat Corning 1-0, Chenango Valley beat Windsor 7-2, and Susquehanna Valley shut out Owego 2-0. Maine-Endwell’s girls soccer team beat Vestal 3-0 at Dick Hoover Stadium on Monday. On the golf course, Maine-Endwell beat Ithaca 203-208, Vestal beat Elmira 218-221, and Windsor beat Norwich 216-219.
Thursday was the busiest day on the county calendar, with six golf matches teeing off at 4:00 p.m. Among them, Union-Endicott beat Elmira 203-212 at En-Joie, Maine-Endwell beat Corning 201-228 at Endwell Greens, and Binghamton beat Ithaca 222-238 at Ely Park. Norwich beat Susquehanna Valley 219-241 at Conklin Players Club, and Horseheads got the win against Vestal, 205-207. At 5:00 p.m., Chenango Forks’ boys soccer team won 9-1 at Johnson City, Owego beat Susquehanna Valley 3-1 in girls soccer, and Vestal’s girls tennis team won 6-1 at Union-Endicott. Vestal varsity football closed the day with a 28-21 win over Owego at Dick Hoover Stadium. On Friday night, Chenango Forks beat Maine-Endwell 36-21 in football, and Windsor beat Norwich 36-15. In soccer, Maine-Endwell’s boys edged Seton Catholic 3-2 at home and Susquehanna Valley’s boys shut out Chenango Valley 2-0.
Union-Endicott football beat Binghamton 57-6 this afternoon at Ty Cobb Stadium. Union-Endicott went into the game at 2-1 after losing 21-15 last week at Horseheads and is now 3-1. Binghamton drops to 0-4 on the season.
In Saturday soccer, Chenango Forks’ boys beat Waverly 6-0 at home, Chenango Valley’s girls shut out Susquehanna Valley 2-0, and Vestal’s girls beat Elmira 1-0. Binghamton University’s men’s soccer team lost 2-1 at NJIT in its America East opener.
Binghamton University’s NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships finishes on Sunday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Vestal, with the finals from 9:00 a.m. Teams from nine schools have been playing since Friday across 13 singles flights and six doubles flights, and the tournament decides who represents the Northeast Conference at the ITA Masters in November. Five Bearcats women are in Sunday singles finals. In the top flight, second seed Jessica McLean came through a three-set semifinal against Oleksandra Ovsiienko of FDU 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. She goes against the top seed in the final. On the men’s side, Filipe Costa reached the top-flight singles semifinal, where he lost to Leon Eddie Schmidt of Wagner 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.

Monday has four county girls tennis matches at 5:00 p.m., including Binghamton against Union-Endicott at Recreation Park and Vestal against Maine-Endwell. On Tuesday, four golf matches tee off at 4:00 p.m., including Union-Endicott against Vestal at En-Joie and Maine-Endwell against Binghamton at Endwell Greens. Union-Endicott hosts a cheer meet at 6:00 p.m. with Norwich, Maine-Endwell, Binghamton, Vestal and Johnson City all participating. On Thursday, Binghamton’s girls soccer team plays Maine-Endwell at 7:00 p.m. at Alumni Stadium, Vestal’s girls host Union-Endicott at 7:15 p.m., and Johnson City’s boys go against Seton at 7:00 p.m.
