Three Bearcats titles headline a week of sports

Three Binghamton University players won their flights at the Binghamton Championships on Sunday at the Lane-Starke Tennis Center in Binghamton.

Binghamton University’s tennis team won three singles flights on its home courts on Sunday, the final day of the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships. The tournament brought nine schools to the Lane-Starke Tennis Center from Friday to Sunday.

Jessica McLean won the top women’s flight, coming back from a set down to beat FDU’s top seed, Sophia Fredericks-McKee, 2-6, 7-5, 7-5. The win earned her a spot at the ITA Masters Championship.

Samantha Jaros also came from a set down to win Flight E, and Adelie Wilson won the Flight G final in straight sets, with both players beating Mercyhurst players in their finals.

Recent Results

In high school soccer on Tuesday, Chenango Forks’ girls beat Oneonta 6-1, and Chenango Valley’s boys beat Johnson City 6-0. In high school tennis Union-Endicott (6-1 over Johnson City) and Susquehanna Valley (7-0 over Windsor) won in girls tennis. In golf, Binghamton beat Maine-Endwell 197-204, Union-Endicott beat Vestal 202-217, and Chenango Valley beat Seton 195-198.

In football on Friday, Sept. 25, Chenango Valley lost 50-14 at Oneonta, and Windsor beat Norwich.

Friday Night

Friday night has four home football games at 7:00 p.m.: Binghamton against Chenango Forks at Alumni Stadium, Johnson City against Chenango Valley, Vestal against Horseheads at Dick Hoover Stadium, and Windsor at Whitney Point. Chenango Forks, Johnson City, and Windsor are all undefeated so far this year. In boys soccer, Union-Endicott hosts Vestal at 7:00 p.m. at Ty Cobb Stadium, and Maine-Endwell goes against Binghamton at 7:30 p.m.

The Weekend

Saturday is Binghamton University’s Homecoming. The Wenzel Memorial 5K begins at 9:00 a.m., starting at the same time as the Meals on Wheels of Western Broome 5K at Otsiningo Park. Susquehanna Valley plays Oneonta in football at 1:30 p.m., and Binghamton University’s volleyball team hosts Bryant at 2:00 p.m. in the West Gym. On Sunday, Binghamton University’s women’s soccer team takes on New Hampshire at home at 1:00 p.m.

The Week Ahead

Monday has four county girls tennis matches at 5:00 p.m. In Tuesday’s girls soccer action, Union-Endicott goes against Binghamton High School and Maine-Endwell takes on Vestal at 7:00 p.m. Those schools’ boys teams then compete in the same matchups on Wednesday. Next Thursday, Oct. 8, Binghamton’s girls host Vestal at 7:00 p.m., and Union-Endicott plays Maine-Endwell at 7:30 p.m. at Ty Cobb Stadium.
