Three Broome County football teams went into Friday night unbeaten, but Chenango Forks was the only one of those teams to pick up a win this week. Chenango Forks is now 6-0, while Johnson City and Windsor both took their first loss of the season.
Johnson City v Waverly
Waverly led Johnson City 20-7 at halftime, which was a bit of a surprise since Johnson City was playing at home and was 5-0. Both teams went on to score long touchdowns within the first two minutes of the second half, with both offenses running the ball effectively. Johnson City began to mount a comeback at the end of the third quarter and carried that energy into the beginning of the fourth. It seemed like the tide was shifting. However, a costly interception halfway through the fourth quarter stalled the potential comeback, and Waverly simply ran down the clock for the rest of the game, handing Johnson City its first loss of the season.
